Experience

I love sharing my passion for science and literature with students and friends. I have teaching and tutoring experience in a range of science topics and levels (middle school to college level). Additionally, I am always looking to gain more teaching experience and always end up learning a lot from my students. I have the most experience working with middle and high school students. In 2014 and 2015, I was the laboratory instructor for Honours Introductory Biology at UMass, for which I developed parts of the curriculum around experimental design, ecology, and animal behavior. Additionally, from 2011 - 2014, I worked as a curriculum developer and instructor of five science after school programs for 7-12th grade girls at Science Club for Girls (http://www.scienceclubforgirls.org/) in Cambridge, MA. These programs included a hands-on zebrafish biology course, which covered basic genetic and behavioral concepts. I'd be happy to tell you more about all of these programs! Finally, I have taken extensive undergraduate and graduate level biology and statistics courses and I play an active role with the Center for Integrated Teaching, Research, and Learning at UMass. I also have a strong background English literature. For my undergraduate major, I took a range of courses from Victorian to post-colonial literature and am happy to edit papers or advise on writing technique.

Hobbies

I absolutely love my graduate research, which involves a lot of laboratory and field work. Specifically, I consider how climate change and anthropogenic (human-induced) impacts influence fisheries and their related food systems. When I am not working, I enjoy reading, cooking, travelling, and dancing. I also do a fair amount of hiking with my dog--a 3 year old labrador mix named Kimber. I also enjoy watching movies and TV to unwind. I look forward to working with you!
