Experience
Since high school, I have mentored young learners. I first tutored in a program for reading comprehension for first graders. Once I was in college at Wheaton, I instructed middle school students in United States History and various electives through a summer program in Norfolk, Virginia. I have my bachelor's degree in African-American and Diaspora studies. At the moment, I am working towards a Master of Social Work. I had the opportunity during my first four years of college to study in Mexico. I remained there for a school year, analyzing the lifestyles of people of African descent in the country. My cultural interests are a unique asset to my tutoring skills. In previous positions of employment, I was responsible for helping students prepare for Accuplacer exams that are necessary for entry into community college. I have worked with people on PSAT prep and essay writing, as well. I feel that reading is the key to life. Written word is a gift and to master comprehension is to master ultimate freedom. I am very fond of poetry, especially live performances. Another passion I enjoy is theater. Most specifically, I enjoy improvisational theater, in which I am a proud actor and participant.
